What is gentamicin sulfate ophthalmic solution USP 0.3 used for? Ophthalmic gentamicin is used to treat certain eye infections. Gentamicin is in a class of medications called antibiotics. It works by killing the bacteria that cause infection.

How long does it take gentamicin eye drops to work?

Do not apply this medication within 5 minutes of administering another medication in the eye. Keep the cap tightly closed when not using the medication. This medication will take effect quickly, in about 1 to 2 hours, but outwardly effects may take a few days to be recognized.

Uses

This medication is used to treat bacterial infections (such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis) of the eye and the skin around the eyes (such as eyelids). It is also used to prevent infection after eye injury or surgery. It belongs to a class of drugs known as aminoglycoside antibiotics. Gentamicin works by killing the bacteria.This medication treats only bacterial eye infections. It will not work for other types of eye infections. Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
